DIY Wedding Invitations May or May Not be Right for Your Wedding

It seems that DIY (do-it-yourself) is becoming popular for almost every aspect of our lives. Why should we pay someone else to do something we can on our own? This is also true for DIY wedding invitations. If you are considering DIY wedding invitations, then you will need to consider the pros and cons carefully before deciding whether this is a project you would like to undertake.

There are two different options available for DIY wedding invitations. You can purchase all of the supplies you think you will need in order to design and make your own wedding invitations or you can purchase a kit that will include all of the necessary supplies for a specific wedding invitation. If you are the extremely creative type, then you may choose to purchase all of the supplies yourself. Otherwise, a kit is likely to be more useful.

One of the biggest considerations when choosing DIY wedding invitations is cost. Many couples choose DIY wedding invitations because they think that they will be able to save a lot of money by buying in bulk and making the invitations themselves. Other couples choose DIY wedding invitations simply because they want to make themselves a part of every detail of their wedding. Many couples also make their own centerpieces, favors, and programs. DIY wedding invitations are just another way that they can be creative with their wedding planning and cost is not an issue. It is important for those couples that are hoping to save money to price out all of the supplies they will need. It may turn out that their version of DIY wedding invitations costs more than purchasing pre-made wedding invitations and that would defeat the purpose.

The next consideration before deciding on DIY wedding invitations is your time. Do you have the time to devote yourself to designing and making the wedding invitations? This will obviously vary on whether you are having a small wedding or a large wedding, but is very important to consider. Wedding invitations should be mailed six to eight weeks prior to your wedding date. This means that the invitations have to be made, stuffed, and addressed by that six to eight week mark. If you always busy either with family and work obligations or with other wedding planning decisions, then you may not have the time for DIY wedding invitations.

You need to weigh out your time versus the amount of money that you will spend on DIY wedding invitations. Will you be saving enough money with your DIY wedding invitations that it is worth all of the time and effort that you will put into designing and creating the perfect invitations for your wedding? Or perhaps you are one of those people that just want to craft as much as possible for their wedding and time and money are not a consideration. Just remember that wedding planning takes a lot of time and there are a lot of decisions to be made. If you are prepared to undertake DIY wedding invitations then by all means, do it!

The biggest benefit of DIY wedding invitations is that you have complete control over your designs and finished product. You will have a wedding invitation that nobody has had before and that nobody will likely have ever again. There is something to be said for having such personal and memorable wedding invitations. If you want something completely your own, then DIY wedding invitations are perfect for you!

You have so many decisions to make before your wedding day. Deciding to use DIY wedding invitations could be everything that you want. If you have the time to put the invitations together then it may save you some money and you will have a one of a kind wedding invitation to send out to your guests. If you think you might not have the time but want to make your own invitations, then consider purchasing a kit that will have everything already together for you. This will take out some of the guesswork while still allowing you to make something all your own. If you don't think you have the time with all of your other obligations, then DIY wedding invitations may not be the right choice for you. Regardless of your reasoning, it is nice to know that you always have the option of DIY wedding invitations!
